San Diego Zoo - Summer Nights 📍Balboa Park
NIGHTIME Zoo is here! The San Diego Zoo is now open from 9a-9p, and are offering up music and live entertainment at select locations around the park. While it can be harder to see some animals once it’s dark, they tend to be fairly active during the evening before the sun goes down. Plus, the crowds thin out! |
Gone Whale Watching 📍Mission Bay
BLUE WHALES, dozens of them. If you have wanted to see the largest living thing on the planet, the time is NOW! This year the water temps are just right and there is ample food keeping the majestic mammals close to our shores. |
USS Midway - Legacy Week 📍San Diego Harbor
Our local retired Naval aircraft carrier is in the midst of Legacy Week, and will be honoring those have served with a wreath ceremony and a remembrance wall, as well as an opportunity to meet veteran aviators and hear the Mesa Continuing Education Choir. The new exhibit, Midway’s Engineers, will also have its Grand Opening! All is included with admission. See the full schedule here. |

Oceanside Trail - NEW TRAIL - Cabrillo National Monument

We’ve got a brand-new trail that just opened up this week in Cabrillo National Monument! It is a rather steep hike down but provides stunning views along the way. I often check the tide chart when planning my coastal hikes and aim for low tide for tide pool exploration.
Be sure to bring some binoculars, as you may spot some whale spouts. I was at the Birch Aquarium last weekend and could easily see Humpbacks (yep, they are currently off the coastline as well) for over an hour - and without binoculars. Do keep in mind, Cabrillo has limited hours for access, so plan accordingly.
PRO TIP: Cabrillo is part of the National Park System. If you plan on visiting any other National Parks this summer, you might consider purchasing an annual pass. It is $80 (Cabrillo is $20 for 1 day), good for 12 months from purchase and gets you into all the National Parks. Active Military and 4th graders are free and seniors are discounted!
